How is the true Church like a dam in a river of iniquity?
The true Church functions as a restraining dam in a river of iniquity, holding back the flood of iniquity during this age. When Christ lifts believers out, that river will overflow the planet as never before. Until then, believers are to stand in the gap and be that dam.
Les explains that Paul makes it clear in Thessalonians that the true Church—the believer—is like a dam in a river of iniquity. The Church is to stand in the gap, as Ezekiel said to the Jews. One day Christ will lift believers out, and that river of iniquity will flood this planet like it has never been flooded before. Until that happens, believers are to be that dam in the river, serving as ambassadors of Heaven in foreign territory.
