What did Saul of Tarsus think he could do to the believers?

Saul of Tarsus thought he could stamp out the believers by putting them to death and putting them in prison. This reflects the self-righteous mentality of the older brother in the parable, who was angry that believers embraced Christ as Messiah.

Les teaches that Saul of Tarsus is typical of the Pharisees, whom the older brother in the parable represents. When the Pharisees saw the little element of believers embracing Christ as the Messiah, it made them angry. Saul thought he could stamp them out by putting them to death and putting them in prison. That is the self-righteous mentality of the older brother, who did not see his own need.
