Why does Les always review at the start of his lessons?
He reviews at the start because new listeners join every week, and the teaching is a progressive process. Coming into the New Testament late without foundational study is like entering calculus without fourth-grade arithmetic. The review helps newcomers follow the ongoing study and keeps the teaching accessible.
Les explains that he reviews just a little bit because new listeners are coming in every week. He notes that even in his classes people ask about friends who want to start coming, and if he is in Old Revelation or somewhere late, he would rather they wait until he starts in Genesis. He likes people to start with him in Genesis and come all the way through, because he has always used the illustration that coming into his line of teaching late in the New Testament is like a kid entering a calculus class without ever having fourth-grade arithmetic. It is a progressive process. He also says he does not want to push somebody out the door and say wait until Genesis, so the review serves the new listeners.
