Les Feldick Bible Study

What must happen before a seed can germinate?

Before a seed can germinate, it must be taken out of its container and placed into the ground, where it can receive moisture and sunlight. For the seed to then sprout new life, it must die—for all practical purposes, the seed dies.

Les explains that Jesus used the kernel of wheat to show why He could not deal with Gentiles before His crucifixion. The hour had come for the Son of Man to be glorified through death, burial, and resurrection. Except a kernel of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. Before a seed can germinate, it has to be taken out of its container and placed into the ground to receive moisture and sunlight. Then, before it can sprout new life, it dies—for all practical purposes, that seed dies.
