Did Jonah want to go to Nineveh?
According to the biblical account, Jonah was adamantly opposed to going to Nineveh, a Gentile city. Instead of heading east toward Nineveh, he took a ship and attempted to sail west on the Mediterranean. His reluctance mirrors Peter's initial hesitation in Acts 10 regarding Cornelius.
Les explains that God told Jonah to go to Nineveh, a Gentile city. Jonah shared the same mindset as Peter in Acts chapter 10, when the Lord told Peter to go to Cornelius. Jonah did not want to go; he was so adamant against it that he took a ship and tried to go west on the Mediterranean. Les notes that in the process, Jonah was thrown overboard, a great fish swallowed him, and for all practical purposes he died. Jesus refers to the account of Jonah, confirming it is true.
