What happened in Matthew 10 just before Jesus sent out the twelve disciples?
Before sending out the twelve, Jesus called them to Himself in the first four verses of Matthew 10. Then in verse 5 He sent them forth, commanding them not to go into the way of the Gentiles nor enter any city of the Samaritans.
Les explains that in Matthew chapter 10, the Lord had just called the twelve disciples in the first four verses. Then at verse 5, Jesus sent them forth at the beginning of His earthly ministry. He did not suggest this; He commanded it as the Lord of Glory, whose authority is highest. He instructed them, saying, "Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and in any city of the Samaritans enter you not." The Samaritans at that time were half-breed Jews who had lost their pure character and were detested by pure Jews. Later in His ministry, Jesus would still go to the city of Samaria, but here He restricted the twelve's mission.
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
