Les Feldick Bible Study

Can I claim that my temptation is unique and no one has ever faced it?

No, Scripture denies that claim. Paul writes that no temptation has taken you but such as is common to man. Every category of temptation has been faced before, and Christ Himself went through all points tempted like as we are, yet without falling. Therefore no one can say their temptation is unique and never faced by anyone.

Les teaches from Hebrews 4:15 that we have a high priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, because He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without falling. Then in 1 Corinthians 10:13, Paul writes that no temptation has taken you but such as is common to man. Les explains that this means you cannot claim to be in a unique position, as though no one has ever faced something like this before. Christ Himself has already gone through every category of temptation, so every temptation is common to man.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
