Who owns the kingdoms of the world now?
The kingdoms of the world currently belong to Satan, the wicked one, for Scripture says the world lies in his lap. These kingdoms are his tonight, and during the temptation indeed he claimed they were his to offer to Christ.
Les explains that the world currently lies in the lap of the wicked one, so these kingdoms belong to Satan tonight. Satan offered all the kingdoms to Christ, saying they were his to give. But Satan did not realize that the King will have them one day anyway, only under totally different circumstances—not by bowing down to Satan, but by utterly defeating him. The temptation was valid because the kingdoms were Satan's to offer. Jesus responded, 'Get thee hence, Satan,' and the devil left Him. Les also notes that Paul later writes, 'Resist the devil and he will flee,' making this a lesson for us.
