Why did Satan tempt Jesus with food after the forty-day fast?
Satan knows our weakest point at any point in time. After forty days and nights of fasting, Jesus was physically hungry, so Satan targeted that hunger. He tempted Him to command stones be made bread, seeking to exploit His weakened physical condition.
Les explains that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was afterward hungered. Satan came with a conditional "if"—"If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread." Les points out that Satan knows our weakest point at any point in time. Since Jesus had just come out of forty days of fasting, He was naturally hungry in the physical realm, so Satan tempted Him with food. This temptation was part of proving who He was and carries over into God's dealing with the whole human race, and His going through these temptations is a comfort to believers today.
