Why does hurting your toe make you hurt all over in 1 Corinthians 12?

In 1 Corinthians 12, the body is one though it has many members. Because the toe is part of the body and its nerve endings are connected to the rest, an injury to the toe is felt all over. This illustrates that all members share one body.

Les explains that 1 Corinthians 12 uses the simple analogy of the human body: as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body. If you hurt your toe, you hurt all over because the toe is a part of the body, and the nerve endings are all connected. The illustration shows the shared connection of the members within the one body.

1 Corinthians 12:12

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
