What period of time does the day of the Lord cover?
The day of the Lord begins with the onset of the tribulation, continues through the seven-year tribulation period, and extends through the thousand-year millennial kingdom. It is not limited to a single event but covers both the tribulation and the millennium.
Les explains that the term “the day of the Lord” actually begins with the onset of the tribulation and goes all the way through the seven years as well as the thousand. That means it includes both the seven-year tribulation and the thousand-year kingdom. He notes that 2 Peter 3:10 says the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, catching the world by surprise. The semicolon in the passage can skip a thousand years, so the text then speaks of the heavens passing away with a great noise and the elements melting with fervent heat. Les also points out that Peter, an uneducated fisherman with no degree in science, used the very terms scientists still use today.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
