What is the relationship between Sheol, Hades, and hell?

Sheol, Hades, and hell are three names for the same place: the center-most part of the earth. Sheol is the Hebrew term, Hades the Greek, and hell the English. All three refer to the realm where Jesus descended and where the rich man was in torment in Luke 16.

Les explains that the Bible uses three terms for the same location. In the Hebrew it is Sheol, in the Greek it is called Hades, and in the English it is called hell. All three pertain to the center-most part of the earth where Jesus said He would descend. In Luke 16, the rich man died and in hell, down in Sheol, he lifted up his eyes in torment, seeing Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. This is an instance for our benefit, showing the realm of the soul and spirit, not the final lake of fire.
