How should a husband treat his wife in a biblical marriage?
A husband is to treat his wife as Christ treats the church: as head, but never as a master over a servant. He must not lord over her or treat her as a slave. Instead, he should live totally to her benefit, giving pure love and the best, mirroring Christ's selfless care.
Les explains that God mandated the husband as head of the wife, but this does not mean she can be his gopher or slave girl, nor that he can lord over her. The relationship is equated to Christ and the church: as the Lord is to the church, so the husband is to the wife, and as the church is to the Lord, so the wife is to the husband. Since being in the body of Christ with Christ as head is not miserable, because He has only the purest love and the best He can give and came that we might have life more abundantly, the husband should live totally to the benefit of his wife.
