What happened to Adam's whole personality when he sinned?
When Adam sinned, his whole personality—his soul comprising mind, will, and emotion—became a sin nature, as Paul calls it. It was bent to sinning, and communication with God became dormant or dead, though not annihilated. The entire personality was affected immediately.
Les explains that Adam was created with a body, a soul, and spirit, and was in fellowship with God. His soul, which made up his personality, was the mind, the will, and the emotion, and it was all in perfect agreement with the Creator. His spirit had fellowship with God, and he walked with Him in the garden. But when Adam sinned, this whole personality immediately became what Paul refers to as a sin nature. It was just bent to sinning, and communication with God became dormant—not annihilated, but dead, like a car battery left with the lights on overnight.
