What is the new frame of thinking for believers?
Believers’ new frame of thinking is the spiritual realm: serving in newness of spirit, not in the oldness of the letter—the Law. This transformation is entered by believing the Gospel, not by returning to fleshly legalism or law-keeping. It is a whole new way of life in the Spirit.
Les explains that believers have been delivered from the Law, which was an administration of death, so that they should serve in newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. The Law is what Paul is talking about. Instead of being under that Law, believers are now in a whole new frame of thinking, which is the spiritual realm. Les asks how we get there and answers: Believe the Gospel. He ties this to Galatians 3:3, warning that having begun in the Spirit by Paul’s Gospel through faith plus nothing, they should not try to move into a deeper spiritual life by the flesh. The flesh wants legalism and Law, part of the old Adamic nature.
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
