Who was the major proponent of pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of Christ?

John Darby, an Englishman writing in the mid-1800s, became the tremendous proponent of the pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of Christ. Earlier, Joseph Meade had begun writing about Israel’s return to the land and a thousand-year reign, but Darby is identified as the major proponent of these end-time teachings.

Les explains that from the Reformation onward, little was taught concerning the end time. In the mid-1800s, an Englishman named John Darby became the tremendous proponent of what is called the pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of Christ. Les notes that many feel Darby wrote one of the best Bible translations ever. Before Darby, Joseph Meade (1586–1638) began writing about Israel returning to the land and a thousand-year reign on earth; he was not paid much attention, but from Meade onward more men began to recover Millennialistic teaching. Since Darby, thousands of theologians have embraced these things as the prophetic plan comes together.
