What did God promise in the Abrahamic covenant regarding the Kingdom?
The Abrahamic covenant promised God would make Israel a separated, special nation, place them in a geographical land, and at the appropriate time come to be their king or set up the government. That promised rule comprises the Kingdom, later pictured in Psalms 2 as God's king set upon Zion in Jerusalem.
Les teaches that the Kingdom idea was on God's mind from the very onset of Scripture, especially after the call of Abraham. The Abrahamic covenant was the covenant between God and the nation of Israel: He would make them a nation of people, a separated, special nation; He would put them in a geographical area of land; and at the appropriate time He would also come to be their king or set up the government. That, Les explains, comprises the Kingdom everything is looking forward to. Then in Psalms chapter 2, Les points out the format of prophecy: the rejection of the Messiah in verse 2, God's derision of mankind, the tribulation in verse 5, and then the Kingdom in verse 6, where God says He has set His king upon His holy hill of Zion. That Kingdom will be centered in Jerusalem, where Zion is.
