Christ is holding the universe together by the word of His power.
Hebrews 1:3 says the Son is "upholding all things by the word of his power." That means Jesus Christ is actively keeping the universe together from one moment to the next. Les Feldick teaches that every celestial body stays in place because Christ has them all under control, and the same Lord Jesus who controls trillions of stars will one day call believers off the earth.
Hebrews 1:3 — This verse explicitly says the Son is upholding all things by the word of His power, directly answering why the universe doesn't fall apart.
Colossians 1:17 — Paul states that by Christ all things consist, showing that the Son continually sustains creation.
Scripture identifies God the Son as the Creator and sustainer of all things. Hebrews 1:1-3 says that God has spoken to us by His Son, by whom He made the worlds, and that the Son is "upholding all things by the word of his power." Colossians 1:16-17 states that all things in heaven and earth were created by Him and for Him, and that "by him all things consist." John 1:1 and John 1:14 identify "the Word" as God and show that this Word became flesh, so the Creator is God the Son, Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Hebrews 11:3 says the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so the visible creation came from nothing. The same divine Word that called creation into being continues to hold it together.
Les Feldick explains that the reason the universe doesn't fall apart is that Christ has it all under control. In Hebrews 1:3, the Son is "upholding all things by the word of his power." Les applies that to the billions upon billions of celestial bodies: not one star is out of control because Christ holds every particle in place. The universe was framed by the spoken Word of God, and it is still being held together by that same Word. Les also points to Christ's total control as proof for our present hope. If Jesus can control trillions of stars, He can easily call millions of believers off the planet. Looking ahead, Les sees Scripture's picture of the universe melting down as God calling His creation back to its original source of light. Even if God destroys this little solar system, to Him it would be just a blip in the midst of infinite space.
The Bible says God made the worlds by His Son and that the Son upholds all things by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:2-3). John 1:1 and John 1:14 show that the Word who was in the beginning with God is the same Word that became flesh. Les Feldick makes the same connection in his teaching, showing that the Creator in Genesis 1:1 is God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Les Feldick says the universe is held together by Christ's Word. Using Hebrews 1:3, he points out that Christ has every celestial body under His control. Not one of the billions of stars in billions of galaxies has ever been out of control, because the same Lord Jesus who controls them all is sustaining the entire universe.
Les teaches from Scripture that the universe will not simply drift forever. He says God flung the universe out with a spoken Word and He can call it back at His will. He sees the biblical picture of all these things being dissolved as creation melting down and coming right back to its original beginning. As for our solar system, if God sees fit to destroy it, it would just be a "little blip" in the vastness of infinite space.
For Les, the same power that keeps every star in place is the power that will call the church out of the earth. Because Christ controls trillions of stars, He will have no trouble calling a few million people off the planet. God is also infinite, so He is beyond even the furthest end of space—and still in total control.
Christ Is the Word Made Flesh
See how John 1:14 and Colossians 1 identify Jesus as the Creator spoken of in Genesis 1:1.
Christ Upholds All Things by His Power
Hebrews 1:3 means Christ personally keeps billions of celestial bodies from crashing together.
The Universe Spoken Into Existence
God's spoken Word framed everything out of nothing, and the visible universe continues to move outward because God is infinite.
All Things Consist by His Word
The whole universe is held together by Christ's Word—this is why it hasn't fallen apart.
The Future Meltdown and Return
Les explains that the universe melting down is simply God calling creation back to its original source of light.
Total Control of Every Star
Since Christ controls every single star, He is fully able to call millions of believers off the planet.
Can We Trust God? Understanding His Character & Faith
But God in His omniscience has put every human being that's ever been born together according to His will. Now, that's hard to swallow. I know it is. The billions in China, yes. The millions here in America, yes. The millions that have been aborted, yes. God in His omniscience and in His sovereignty has put together every sperm and every egg that has ever been fertilized.
The Infinity of God and Space
Les reminds us that beyond all space God is always there, so even if this solar system is destroyed it is only a blip in His vast creation.
Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
This is the opening statement about God creating the universe out of nothing.
John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This identifies the Word who was with God and was God before creation.
John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
This shows that the Word who created all things became flesh in Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:16: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
This states that the Son created everything in the universe, including invisible powers.
Colossians 1:17: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
This is a direct statement that Christ holds all things together.
Hebrews 1:2: Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
This says God made the worlds by His Son.
Hebrews 1:3: Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
This verse is the clearest biblical answer: the Son upholds all things by His powerful word.
Hebrews 11:3: Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
This explains that the visible universe was created by God's spoken word out of nothing.
Yes. Hebrews 1:3 says the Son is upholding all things by the word of His power, and Colossians 1:17 says by Him all things consist. Les Feldick teaches this means every star and planet is under Christ's total control.
He says Christ has them all under control. Not one of the billions upon billions of stars has ever been out of control because the Lord Jesus is holding everything together by His Word.
Les sees a future day when God will call creation back and it will melt down to its original beginning. He says if God chose to destroy this little solar system, it would be just a blip in God's infinite creation.
Les points out that if Christ can control trillions of stars, He can certainly call millions of believers off the planet when the time comes. The same power that sustains the universe is the power that secures our hope.
