What three things make up Babylon in Revelation?
In Revelation, Babylon is comprised of three intertwined areas: the world's religions, the world's politics, and the world's economics. These three form the whole social fabric of the world, and Scripture calls that entire global system Babylon because religion, politics, and economics become entwined.
Les explains that whenever you see the word Babylon in Revelation, always think of the whole global picture. He says Babylon in Revelation is going to be comprised of the world's religions, the world's politics, and the world's economics. Those three areas of activity comprise the whole social fabric of the world and are all intertwined. As an illustration, he points to the mayhem in what was called former Yugoslavia, where the crux of the problem was religion, but religion gets entwined with politics, and when you have religion and politics it gets entwined with economics, forming the world's system. Since the world is getting so small and events move so fast, the Bible can rightfully call that whole system Babylon. He also notes that the other word for Babylon, or Babel, is confusion.
