Les Feldick Bible Study

Where are all the world's armies gathered before Armageddon according to Revelation?

Revelation shows the world's armies gathered to the Middle East, where God brings them for judgment. The winepress is trodden outside the city, in the valleys north of Jerusalem. The blood flows as deep as horses' bridles for about 180 miles, reaching down toward the Red Sea.

Les explains that Revelation 14 uses the grape vat analogy: just as vineyard keepers put grapes into vats and someone tramples them, so God has brought all the armies of the world to the Middle East. He will trample them with the final plague of hailstones. Picture millions of troops in tents; a hundred-pound hailstone will squash them like grapes in a vat. Verse 20 says the winepress is trodden without the city, and these valleys are north of Jerusalem. Blood comes out of the winepress to the horses' bridles, a river of blood three to four feet deep, extending 1,600 furlongs, about 180 miles, the distance down to the Red Sea. As the melting hail crushes millions and melts in Middle Eastern heat, a literal river of blood flows that deep.
