Who is the person coming from Edom with dyed garments in Isaiah 63:1?

Isaiah 63:1 identifies this figure as Christ. The passage depicts His return, bringing judgment upon the gathered armies, and His garments are like one who treads in the wine vat. Scripture presents Him as speaking in righteousness and mighty to save.

Les explains that Isaiah 63:1 asks who comes from Edom with dyed garments from Bozrah, glorious in apparel and traveling in the greatness of his strength. He identifies the one speaking in righteousness and mighty to save as Christ. This is a picture of His returning and bringing judgment upon the gathered armies. Verse 2 then asks why His apparel is red like one who treadeth in the wine vat. Les connects this to the grape vat analogy: grapes were squeezed by people walking in a hewed-out stone vat, and this pictures what God is doing with the peoples of the world. He also notes that Edom is down to the southeast of the Dead Sea.

Isaiah 63:1

Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
