Was the tabernacle that Moses built a copy of something in heaven?

Yes. The tabernacle Moses built was according to a heavenly pattern. God showed Moses the pattern, and Hebrews 9 describes a greater, more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, not of this creation. The earthly sanctuary corresponded to the heavenly original.

Les teaches that in Exodus 25 Moses had brought Israel out of Egypt, and they were gathered around Mount Sinai as God gave instructions for the tabernacle. The Lord told them to make Him a sanctuary so He could dwell among them, according to all that He showed Moses—according to the pattern of the tabernacle and of all its instruments. Les explains that a pattern is an original, and this original has to be in heaven. The blueprint given to Moses and Aaron was simply a pattern or blueprint patterned after the original in heaven. That heavenly original is the one opened in Revelation 11:19 during the closing days of the tribulation. Hebrews 9 then speaks of Christ as a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation.

Exodus 25:9

According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.
