What Old Testament event do the thunderings and lightnings in the trumpet judgments remind us of?

The thunderings and lightnings in the trumpet judgments recall the Old Testament event at Mount Sinai, when God came down in Exodus. There were thunderings, lightnings, and the voice of God, as recorded in Exodus. The judgments replay that Sinai scene on a grander scale.

Les explains that when Revelation describes voices, thunderings, and lightnings at the beginning of the trumpet judgments, it flashes all the way back to Exodus, when God came down on Mount Sinai. At Sinai there were thunderings, lightnings, and the voice of God. Les says this is a constant replay, only now on a totally grander scale.
