What does mixing paganism with Christianity do to the truth of God's Word?
Mixing paganism with Christianity prostitutes the truth of the Word of God. This is spiritual adultery, because religious organizations take practices from the pagan world and blend them with New Testament Christianity. Such mixture adulterates the things of God rather than preserving them, and God will judge it.
Les explains that the adultery in this passage is not physical adultery or immorality but spiritual adultery. Spiritual adultery happens when religious organizations take something from the pagan world and mix it with New Testament Christianity. Any time paganism is mixed with Christianity, it is prostituting the truth of the Word of God. The “whore” is not a woman of the street or a woman of the evening; it is a system that has adulterated the things of God, and God is going to judge it. The passage then says the kings of the earth have committed fornication with this system, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her immorality.
