Which tribe is missing from the list of the 144,000 sealed tribes in Revelation 7?
The tribe of Dan is omitted from the list of the 144,000 sealed tribes in Revelation 7. Dan was left out for a purpose: the tribe was the first to go into idolatry, and consequently it is not included among the twelve tribes named.
Les teaches that in Revelation 7, after the number 144,000 is heard and described as sealed out of all the tribes of Israel, the tribes are named—Judah, Reuben, and the others. He points out that all the tribes are listed except one, a question he says comes up almost weekly. Although the discussion momentarily considers Gad and then Ephraim, Les corrects himself and identifies Dan as the omitted tribe. Dan was left out for a purpose. The context explains that Dan moved into the northern area of Israel when the tribe did not have enough in its designated place, and Dan was the first tribe to go into idolatry. Consequently, Dan is left out of these twelve tribes, while 12,000 from each of the other tribes are sealed and given a particular mission.
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
