What did Old Testament prophecy expect to happen right after the cross?

Old Testament prophecy expected that right after the cross, prophecy would end, Israel would have her King and the Kingdom, and the Kingdom Age would begin. But because Israel rejected it, that expectation was not fulfilled; instead, the Church Age was inserted, unknown to the Old Testament writers.

Les explains that all prophecy was directed to the nation of Israel, and no prophecy gives any indication of the Church as such. The Old Testament prophets understood there was something between His first advent and His coming in power and glory, but they viewed the two advents as one, like distant mountain ranges with no discernible valley between. According to prophecy, it would just go beyond the cross, and that was supposed to be the end of prophecy. Israel would have her King and the Kingdom, and they would go into the Kingdom Age. But it did not end up that way, because Israel rejected it, and unknown to the Old Testament writers, the whole period of time called the Church Age was opened up and parenthesized.
