Why does the dragon persecute the woman in Revelation 12:13?

Scripture teaches the dragon persecutes the woman because he saw he was cast into the earth, and the woman represents the nation of Israel. This occurs at the midpoint of the tribulation. His being cast to the earth prompts this attack on the nation.

Les explains that in Revelation 12, the woman symbolizes the nation of Israel, and the man-child is the Christ child. After the child is caught up to God and His throne, the scene leaps to the midpoint of the tribulation. When the dragon sees he has been cast into the earth, he persecutes the woman—Israel. She flees into the wilderness, to the mountains Jesus spoke of, where God has prepared a place to feed her for 1,260 days, or three and a half years.
