What happened after the first beast fell in Daniel's prophecy?
After the first beast fell, it was lifted up and given a man's heart. Then another empire arose—the Medes and Persians—depicted as a bear raised on one side with three ribs between its teeth. It was told to devour much flesh and took over the then-known world.
Les explains that after the first beast was defeated and fell, it was lifted up from the earth, made to stand on the feet of a man, and a man's heart was given to it. As a result of that fall, another empire and another beast appeared. This was the Medes and Persians, pictured as a bear raised up on one side, with three ribs in its mouth between its teeth, and they were told to devour much flesh. They took over the then-known world. Then, in verse 6, another empire like a leopard arose, depicting Alexander the Great, who was swift in his conquests. It had four wings and four heads, representing the four generals who took over after Alexander died. Finally, after the Grecian empire falls, the Roman empire comes, described as dreadful, terrible, and exceedingly strong.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.
