What does 'iron mixed with miry clay' mean in Daniel 2:43?

The iron mixed with miry clay depicts the coming United States of Europe: it has strength but also weakness. Its nations mingle with the seed of men yet will not cleave together, so there is no real political unity. That fragility makes it ripe for one man, the Antichrist, to arise.

Les explains that in Daniel 2:43 the iron mixed with miry clay pictures the end-time European arrangement. Although the nations agree to come together politically and economically as a United States of Europe, latent hatreds make the whole thing fragile. It has strength, but it has that weakness. Daniel says they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men, just as Europe is doing, but they shall not cleave one to another, meaning there will not be real political unity. That fragility makes the situation ripe for one man, the Antichrist, to come on the scene. Out of the consortium of ten nations he will emerge and make a treaty with Israel that triggers God's prophetic time clock and the final seven years.

Daniel 2:43

And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
