Why were Paul and Barnabas called back to Jerusalem on the carpet?
Paul and Barnabas were summoned to Jerusalem because they had preached to Gentiles the gospel that the Jerusalem church believed was reserved for the Jewish people. Their audacity in taking that message to Gentiles prompted the confrontation, as Paul recounts in Galatians.
Les explains that this occurred about twenty-two years after Pentecost. Paul and Barnabas were called back to Jerusalem because they had gone to Gentiles with the message that the Jewish believers thought was for the Jew. Paul says he went up by revelation, meaning God revealed to him the necessity to go. He met with the leaders of Judaism and the believing Jews in the Jerusalem assembly, and he communicated the gospel he preached among the Gentiles, because the prophetic program had been interrupted.
