Why can believers tell lost people they have already been reconciled?

Reconciliation for iniquity was accomplished at the cross. When Christ died, reconciliation was made possible, and the ministry of reconciliation declares it finished. So the unsaved can be told their reconciliation is already accomplished; they need only believe it, and God will reckon them as reconciled.

Les teaches that Daniel's 490-year prophecy includes the purpose "to make reconciliation for iniquity," and that this was all accomplished in the work of the cross. When Christ died, reconciliation was made possible. Paul brings this out in 2 Corinthians chapter 5: "be ye reconciled to God," and believers now have the ministry of reconciliation. Because of that finished work, believers can tell a lost world, "you've already been reconciled." It has all been accomplished; the lost person is to believe it, and God will reckon that one as reconciled. Les also connects this to sin being defeated at the cross, where Satan was utterly defeated, and notes that for the believer his power has been broken as a result of the work of the cross.
