What have Western civilizations had since the Magna Charta?

Since the Magna Charta, Western civilizations have had a semblance of human rights. Before that document, there was no such thing as human rights. Even so, many people in Western civilizations still live in a downtrodden state, poverty, and lack of goods, so it is not a utopia.

Les explains that throughout human history, unless a person lived among the very elite ruling class, life for most people was merely existence under abject poverty, slavery, and oppression. It was not until the Magna Charta came out of England in about the 14th century that some human rights were delineated. Before that, there was no such thing as human rights. Since the Magna Charta, Western civilizations have had a semblance of human rights, but even among them many people still live downtrodden, groveling in poverty and having none of this world's goods. Les notes that we are not in any utopia, though the nation is certainly blessed. Daniel sees these empires as bestial in their makeup, behavior, greed, and treatment of subjects.
