What does a mountain represent when it is used as a symbol in the Bible?

When a mountain is used as a symbol in the Bible, it represents a kingdom, most generally the kingdom. Unless the text specifies a particular mountain like Sinai or Horeb, the symbolic mountain stands for a kingdom, and that kingdom is consistently the kingdom throughout Scripture.

Les explains that in the vision described, the stone cut without hands strikes the image, crushes it to pieces, and then becomes a great mountain. That mountain represents a kingdom. He stresses that symbolic words in Scripture maintain their symbolism from cover to cover. So unless the text names a specific mountain like Sinai or Horeb, a mountain used symbolically always stands for a kingdom, most generally the kingdom. As he puts it, the kingdom is the kingdom is the kingdom.
