Why did Nebuchadnezzar get away with taking the vessels from God’s temple?
Nebuchadnezzar got away with it because he probably did not use the vessels. They were carried to Babylon and put in a temple of his gods, remaining unused until Belshazzar's drunken feast, when they were used for wine drinking and partying. Then the handwriting on the wall appeared.
Les explains that Daniel 1 records how the Lord gave Jehiakim, king of Judah, into Nebuchadnezzar's hand, along with part of the vessels of the house of God. Nebuchadnezzar carried those gold, silver, and brazen vessels from Jerusalem back to Babylon and placed them in one of the temples of his gods. Les suggests he got away with it because he probably did not use them until the great drunken feast of Belshazzar, when the vessels were brought in and used for wine drinking and partying. Then the handwriting on the wall appeared. Les notes all these vessels from that beautiful temple had been taken to Babylon, and this section now moves into the area of Gentile empires, leading him to Luke 21.
