How does the natural-then-spiritual pattern apply to King Saul and David?

Scripture's pattern is first the natural, then the spiritual. King Saul represents the natural: he was Israel's first king but not a godly man. David follows him as the spiritual, showing the same order. This natural-then-spiritual format runs consistently through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

Les teaches that all through Scripture there is a format that is never abridged: first the natural, then the spiritual, and it carries from Genesis to Revelation. In Israel's history, after they rejected God, they chose their first king, Saul, who is the natural and not a godly man. The one who follows him is David, the spiritual. Les connects this same pattern to other examples such as Adam and Christ, Cain and Abel, and Esau and Jacob.
