What happened when Israel had a good judge during the Judges period?

Israel reached a spiritual height under a God-centered government whenever a good judge led them. That judge was merely a ruler under God. This happened during the 300-400 year Judges period, which was a roller coaster because Israel failed to destroy the Canaanite people, who led them into idolatry.

Les teaches that the book of Judges covers between 300 and 400 years—a long time, twice as long as America has been a nation. During that period, Israel occupied Canaan but did not destroy the Canaanite people as God instructed. They got soft-hearted and thought they could use them as servants. As God promised, the Canaanites led Israel into idolatry. Even though Israel had Jehovah's miracle-working power in their midst, they turned to pagan idols. The history of Israel throughout those years was a roller coaster. They would reach a spiritual height under a good judge, who was merely a ruler under God—a God-centered government.
