Les Feldick Bible Study

What did Rahab believe about the God of Israel?

Rahab believed the God of Israel was the God of creation, the God in heaven above and in earth below, and the God she would serve. Her faith rested on who God was, not on full knowledge of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, which faith did not then require.

Les explains that Rahab, a Gentile prostitute living on the wall of Jericho, had faith centered on who God was. She confessed that the Lord your God is God in heaven above and in earth below, and that He was the God of creation she was going to serve. Her faith did not require recognition of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, because that was not the requirement at that time. She then made a deal with Joshua's spies to remember her family when the city was taken. Those family members who trusted the spies' promise were saved, Les says, not only from the Israeli invasion but saved spiritually as well.
