Why did God put Moses in the desert for 40 years?
God placed Moses on the backside of the desert for forty years to prepare him as an instrument God could use. When Moses was mighty, had power and clout, God could not use him; he acted in fleshly energy. God chooses the foolish and weak to confound the wise and mighty.
Les explains that before looking at the sign aspect, he takes us to 1 Corinthians chapter 1 to see why God had to put Moses on the backside of the desert for 40 years. Paul writes in verse 26 that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. Les then puts that back in perspective with Moses. When Moses was mighty, when he had power and clout, God could not use him. He went out in the energy of the flesh and thought he could deliver the children of Israel. The 40 years on the backside of the desert prepared him from God's point of view to be an instrument God could use.
