How are the Amalekites related to Esau?

The Amalekites descended from Amalek, who was born to Timnah, the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau's son. This makes Amalek a grandson of Esau through Eliphaz, so the Amalekites originated from one of Esau's offspring and are thus related to Esau's family line.

Les explains that Timnah was a concubine to Eliphaz, Esau's son, and she bore Eliphaz a son named Amalek. The Amalekites therefore originated from one of the offspring of Esau. Les connects this to the later Old Testament history, noting that the Amalekites were the first people Israel fought after coming out of Egypt under Moses and heading toward Sinai. He points out that these relatives become arch enemies as Old Testament history unfolds, illustrating how conflicts often arise within family lines, where affiliations are closest and passions and emotions can quickly get the best of people.
