What did the messianic element of the blessing mean to Esau?

The messianic element of the blessing meant nothing to Esau. He had no interest in being in the line of the Messiah; his concern was the material double portion of his father's wealth. The spiritual significance carried no value to him, while the material inheritance provoked his anger.

Les explains that when the blessing went to Jacob, it placed Jacob in the line of the Messiah, but that meant nothing to Esau. Esau's focus was entirely on the material side—the double portion of Isaac's wealth, flocks, herds, servants, gold, and silver. That is why he became so upset when he learned Jacob had received the blessing. The birthright itself had not created enmity, but the blessing did, because it was the material aspect that mattered to Esau.
