Why is Daniel's 70th week still future rather than already fulfilled?
Daniel's 70th week remains future because 483 of the 490 years were fulfilled up to the crucifixion. That leaves seven years unfulfilled. At the cross God's clock stopped, so the final seven-year period is still ahead and must yet be fulfilled.
Les explains that the total years God was going to deal with Israel was 490. From the decree of Nehemiah 2 until the crucifixion was 483 years, leaving seven years. Most Bible scholars refer to this remaining seven-year period as Daniel's 70th week. Sixty-nine were fulfilled at the cross, God's clock stopped, and the last seven years are still ahead and still have to be fulfilled. Verse 26 also speaks of a coming prince, a small-letter prince referring to the Antichrist, whose people would destroy the temple, which was done by the Roman general Titus in A.D. 70.
