Why did God tell Israelite farmers to leave grapes in their vineyards?

God mandated that Israelite farmers leave grapes in their vineyards for the poor. They were not to glean every grape or gather the entire vineyard, but to leave a gleaning so the poor could gather food. This requirement was commanded by God, demonstrating provision for the needy.

Les teaches that the law said, 'thou shalt not glean thy vineyard,' meaning farmers were not to pick every last grape. They had to leave gleanings for the poor, and this was mandated by God. He then uses the harvest principle: the main harvest, taken all at once, pictures the rapture or resurrection of the church-age believer. The corners and gleanings left behind represent another group, which he connects to 1 Corinthians 15:23.
