What does the Hebrew word Elohim mean?

The Hebrew word Elohim means God, a plural term for deity. It can refer to the true God or, uncapitalized, to pagan gods plural. In Scripture it indicates the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—a plurality of persons who are co-equal.

Les teaches that in the Hebrew text the term for deity is Elohim, and Elohim is a plural word. When an Old Testament text refers to the true God, it is capitalized as God; when it refers to pagan gods plural, it is the same Hebrew word without capitalization, appearing as gods. Elohim thus points to the triune God—a plurality of persons. Les is a firm believer in the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, all co-equal, with none superseding or above the others.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
