What enmity does Genesis 3:15 describe between the seed of the woman and Satan?

Genesis 3:15 describes a continuing enmity between the serpent’s seed and the woman’s seed, ultimately identified as Christ. The woman’s seed would bruise Satan’s head, while Satan would bruise the Redeemer’s heel. This foretells the long conflict between Satan’s powers and the Son of God, who would come as Redeemer.

Les explains that Genesis 3:15 foretells a long run of enmity between the powers of Satan and especially the Son of God, who would come on the scene as the Redeemer. The woman’s seed would bruise the head of Satan, and Satan would bruise his heel. The serpent would get his licks in by bruising the heel of the Redeemer, but the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent’s head. Les also shows that this seed of the woman is unique in Genesis 3:15 and must be followed through Scripture. Galatians 3:16 qualifies who the seed of the woman is: the promises were made to Abraham and his seed, not many seeds, but one seed, which is Christ. Therefore the Lord Jesus can be referred to as the seed of the woman, and the verse looks forward to the coming Redeemer.

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
