Why is the book of Exodus called the book of redemption?

Exodus is called the book of redemption because God purchased His covenant people out of Egypt's slave market. He bought them back, redeeming them. Redemption means regaining control of something lost by buying it back, and that pattern is displayed when God delivered His covenant people from slavery.

Les explains that Exodus is normally called the book of redemption because God bought His covenant people out of the slave market of Egypt. He redeemed them; He bought them back. Les connects this to the broader redemption concept: something you have lost control over, but you buy that control back. He notes this Redeemer theme runs through the Old Testament, including Job's words, “I know that my Redeemer liveth.” He also turns to an everyday mortgage illustration, where a paid-for home can be mortgaged when cash is needed, to picture the idea of buying back or regaining control of what was lost.
