Why do people get so confused and hung up when they read the Old Testament?
People get confused by the Old Testament because they fail to recognize to whom it was spoken. It was written to the Jew under the Law, not to Gentiles. Since believers today are not under the Law nor Jews, they fret and fuss trying to understand it without that key distinction.
Les explains that when people call him with questions from the Old Testament, they are all hung up. He says it would be so simple to understand if they would just realize to whom it is being spoken. The Old Testament was written to the Jew under the Law, and that makes all the difference in the world. But they fret with it, fuss with it, and cannot figure out why they cannot understand it. He points out that we are not under the Law and not Jews. In contrast, the Jew today has a hard time comprehending Paul because Paul's letters are not written to the Jew but to the Gentile. He urges always keeping that in mind while reading.
