What did King Herod do with the temple of Ezra and Nehemiah?

King Herod took the modest restored temple built by Ezra and Nehemiah on Mount Moriah and remodeled and enlarged it, transforming it into a wonder of the ancient world and the beautiful temple complex that stood when Christ began His earthly ministry.

Les explains that after the Babylonian captivity, Ezra and Nehemiah rebuilt a temple, but with limited resources it was not as beautiful as Solomon's. King Herod, though not a believer, loved to build and was known as a tremendous builder. He took that little ramshackle temple on Mount Moriah, remodeled and enlarged it, making it a wonder of the ancient world. That beautiful temple complex was present when Christ began His earthly ministry, and it was destroyed in 70 A.D. by the Roman General Titus.
