Is joy something that comes from within a person?
Yes. Joy comes from within as a result of the Holy Spirit indwelling us and because of what God has done on our behalf. It is not dependent on circumstances, so it remains even in trials, unlike happiness, which is circumstantial.
Les explains that joy is that which comes from within as a result of the Holy Spirit indwelling us and as a result of what God has done on our behalf. Because we have life eternal and the promises of all that God has prepared for us, we have joy unspeakable regardless of what may happen to us in this life. That is what precipitates real joy. Happiness, by contrast, is the result of circumstances—health, paid bills, money in the bank, a decent car, a nice home—things that are circumstantial and have nothing to do with the inner life. So joy is within; whether there is money in the bank or trial and tribulations, you can still have joy, but you won't be happy.
