What does it mean that against the fruit of the Spirit there is no law?
It means no law condemns or opposes the fruit of the Spirit. Paul says nothing can oppose love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. No law calls these things evil; they are good attributes that enhance life and make up the abundant life.
Les teaches that there are nine fruits of the Spirit, divided into three segments of three. The first three—love, joy, and peace—are the inner results of salvation in the believer’s life, what we can experience simply by having believed the Gospel. He explains that we are not saved merely as a fire escape or just to escape hell fire; we are saved to have life abundantly, as Jesus said. These nine fruits are that abundant life. Therefore, Paul says, against these things there is nothing that can oppose them. There is no law saying love, joy, or the rest are bad. They are attributes of a life that enhances, and it would be far better to live in a community where everyone lived this way than where people practiced what was seen in the previous program, which produces pandemonium and fills the police blotters.
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
