Why do people naturally turn to worship idols?

It is innate in human nature: a bent, drawing power to worship a false god, plaguing the human race since the Tower of Babel. This impulse produces idols of various sorts. Even Israel, having proof of the living God, followed pagan gods, as seen in Jeremiah 44 and Elijah’s Mount Carmel controversy.

Les teaches that this tendency has plagued the human race at least since the Tower of Babel—a bent to worship a false god. He explains that it is just innate in human nature to want to follow that drawing power to worship a false god, idols of one sort or another. He points to Jeremiah 44, starting at verse 18, where even Israel, who had the proof of the living God all the way back from their beginning and should have known better, followed after pagan gods. He also recalls the controversy Elijah had on Mount Carmel with all the prophets of Baal, because Israel had been following them.
